The historic, local African-American Episcopal congregations: St. Philip and St. Thomas, having recently merged–and looking for a new home–procured the services of 4RM+ULA to facilitate this process. 4RM+ULA led them through a comprehensive visioning process which challenged the century-old congregations to unite by (re)defining themselves and exploring who/what they endeavor to be in the next century.
This process led the congregation in several unexpected directions–ultimately guiding them to the decision that the individual parishes would collaborate on a selecting a site for–and building a new facility to house their new, collective entity.
4RM+ULA developed a building diagram that met their goals and that diagram evolved into an 8,000sf/200+seat facility that will function as much as a 21st century community center as it will an ecclesiastic space
